Ocean Renewable Power Company, LLC (ORPC) was founded in 2004 for the purpose of generating reliable, competitive, emission-free electricity from the virtually unlimited energy resources of the oceans. ORPC is developing proprietary modular ocean current generation OCGen™ technology and incorporating it into environmentally superior, financially successful, ocean and tidal current generation projects. ORPC's principals include professionals with extensive experience in the development and financing of cogeneration, independent power and renewable energy facilities, and in the management of technology
development and startup companies. Most recently, ORPC successfully completed extensive testing of the core of its OCGen™ technology, the Turbine Generator Unit (TGU), in Western Passage, ME. The results proved the technical feasibility of the TGU.
The core of ORPC's Ocean Current Generation (OCGen™) technology is ORPC proprietary Turbine- Generator Unit (TGU).
Each TGU will have a generating capacity of up to 250 Killowatts in a 6 knot current (varies with current speed).
Each TGU consists of two cross flow turbines that drive a permanent magnet generator on a single shaft.
OCGen™ TGU can be shop assembled and shipped to project sites.
TGU are “stacked” (horizontally or vertically) and incorporated into OCGen™ modules that contain the ballast/buoyancy, power, electronics, control system and other modules
Start Up and Initial Testing of the TGU is Underway
ORPC is developing both Tidal and Ocean Current Projects. ORPC has Preliminary Permits
from Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for three Tidal Energy sites and six Ocean Current sites:
Tidal Energy Sites:
Western Passage, Maine
CobsCook Bay, Maine
Cook Inlet, Alaska
The Bay of Fundy (Maine) and Cook Inlet (Alaska) are two of the most robust tidal energy resources in the world.
Ocean Current Sites:
Ft. Lauderdale
West Palm Beach
All ocean current sites are located off the east coast of Florida in the Florida Current.
